About
* This is an old video produced in 2020 to celebrate his 80th birthday.
Olufemi’s journey began in Lagos, where in December 1969, a chance encounter with his future wife at Marine and General Assurance Company marked the beginning of a lifelong partnership built on faith, love, and mutual respect. As a husband, he was affectionate and supportive; as a father and grandfather, he was wise, present, and selfless — always placing the needs of his family above his own.
Professionally, Olufemi Peters was a well-respected figure in Nigeria’s insurance industry. He not only built a solid career but also served as a mentor and guide to many, influencing even members of his extended family — including his brother-in-law, whom he helped steer towards a professional insurance qualification. His reputation for honesty and ethical standards made him a role model to peers and juniors alike.
Beyond work, Olufemi was a man of deep Christian faith, with a life rooted in prayer, devotion, and unwavering belief in God’s promises. His faith was not just a private affair but a legacy he shared freely through counsel, prayer, and the example of how he lived.
He was also full of life — a lover of music, action movies (especially James Bond classics), cars, and meaningful road trips. He shared many of these joys with his first son, with whom he had a particularly close relationship. They would often bond over mixtapes, late-night movie sessions, and father-son conversations filled with laughter and life lessons. In his prime, Olufemi was adventurous and playful — taking his children on picnics, beach outings, and sharing in games that lit up their childhood.
Fondly called “Big Daddy”, he became a father figure not only to his own children but to many others around him. His warm personality, sharp wit, and deep sense of fairness earned him a place in the hearts of all who knew him.
He was a man who valued connection. He maintained a close, joyful relationship with his daughters and sons-in-law, and had a particularly sweet bond with his daughter-in-law, who would bring him chocolates and treats from her travels — gifts he received with childlike delight.
In his later years, he continued to pour into others — with his time, wisdom, and especially his prayers. He remained the spiritual anchor for his family, regularly blessing his children and grandchildren by name, reminding his first son especially of his role as the head of the home.
Olufemi Peters was not a man of loud declarations, but his life spoke volumes. Through the way he lived, loved, and led, he left behind a legacy of grace, strength, and faith that will live on for generations.
He is deeply missed, fondly remembered, and forever in our hearts.
